Have any of you mom's ever dined at Artist Point? We are staying at WL late November, and the menu looks just as appealing as California Grill (yet much easier to make a reservation). What would be your first choice?

    Hi Christine,

    Such a great question...and a hard one!

For years, California Grill has been our go-to restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. We love the view from the top of the Contemporary, the service, the chance to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the roof and everything on the menu.

Then last year, for my husband's birthday, we decided to vary things a bit and celebrated at Artist Point.

Now, we have the same quandary as you. We fell in love with Artist Point. We had a great meal (the buffalo very well may be my favorite entree in all of Walt Disney World now), great service and a memorable evening. We've always loved the ambiance of Wilderness Lodge and are frequent visitors to the Territory Lounge, so we can't believe it took us so many years to discover Artist Point.

We also are visiting at the end of November, during Thanksgiving week, and we are so eager to return to California Grill to see what has changed during the months-long renovation of the space and the menu. You are correct that it is going to be a difficult reservation to get as many guests feel like we do. I grabbed our reservation at 6 a.m. the day they became available.

But I also reserved Artist Point for the next night. I just couldn't pick one over the other. So I'm a lot of help, right?

California Grill, with its sushi menu, has a bit more variety than Artist Point. And there's always that view to consider. But there's also a lot to be said for having a wonderful dinner right in your hotel, without the need to take transportation afterward.

I obviously don't think you can go wrong either way. I would go with whichever one has an available reservation that fits your schedule. Or, like me, you can hedge your bets and try both.

I hope that is helpful. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions or offer more details. Happy dining!
