Hi Erin! Youre so helpful! Will visit 2 wks in early Dec 2011 with DH, my parents, sister/BIL and their 2,5y + 6m kids. What resort/room do you recommend? We love each other but also our privacy! Also we will spend time at resort so not too crowded.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm down to my last few days on the panel, so your nice thoughts really mean the world to me.

With a large multi-generational group, I usually recommend staying in the villa-style rooms at Walt Disney World. There are a few "Grand Villas" at the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts that have three bedrooms, in additional to three bathrooms, a living room, a dining area, and a full kitchen. A three-bedroom villa would allow everyone to have their own bedroom as well as ample communal space. Another three-bedroom option would be the Treehouse Villas at the Saratoga Springs resort. The Treehouses also have outdoor space for lounging or dining if the weather is nice.

Your party could also fit in a two-bedroom villa rooms at any of the DVC resorts. (These include Old Key West, the Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Comtemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club Villas, and Saratoga Springs.) The two-bedroom villas sleep up to eight people each. They include two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area, and a full kitchen. The disadvantage to this is that someone would need to sleep on the living room pull-put couch. The advantage is that this is much cheaper than a three-bedroom unit. The newest, and nicest, two-bedroom units are at Contemporary's Bay Lake Tower unit. But you would also have good luck at the Beach Club, which has the best pool at WDW and super-easy access to both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Alternatively, you can ask your reservation agent to try to put your party in regular rooms that are near each other at any of the Disney hotels. However, with this arrangement you have no sitting area, just bedrooms. For your group with such a long stay, I think you'd be much more comfortable in a villa.
