Erin, thanks for your input about SSR. We are staying there in Aug & your tips have been very helpful. We are new DVC members at SSR. We are also planning to visit in Jan and would like to try another villa. Which do you like best for pre-schoolers?

    Welcome to the DVC!

We own at Wilderness Lodge. I adore the themeing and the restaurants there. WL is my favorite Disney resort on both those counts, but I have to say that we've had the most success with the Beach Club Villas, even when the kids were quite small. Here's why:

    1. That sandy bottom pool at the Beach Club. I cannot overestimate the fun my kids have had burying their Dad in the sand there. I'm always nervous at the real beach that the kids are going to get sucked away by the undertow (too much reading of The World According to Garp in college), so it makes me happy happy when they get the fun of the beach while I get to let my guard down (a little). We get hours of entertainment at the BC pool every day that we're there.

    2. Proximity to Epcot and DHS. When my kids were preschoolers they were early risers (like they were the ones giving the rooster his wake-up call). So we were raring to go in the morning and the bus to MK seemed like an adventure rather than a hassle. We always came back to the Beach Club in the afternoon to swim and rest. Then in the early evening we would go to Epcot and DHS for just an hour or two of touring and a meal. We love exploring the food at the World Showcase countries. Then after dinner, you're just steps away from tucking in the kids into bed. This is a HUGE plus for me because it really cuts down on the evening crankiness for all of us. In this regard, the Boardwalk villas would serve you well too, but you don't get the sandy pool there.

The only DVC resorts I've stayed at are VWL, BCV, and SSR. I'll be staying at the Animal Kingdom Villas for the first time in September with my oldest daughter. (We're running together in the Expedition Everest 5K. Yikes!) We have a savannah view and I'm really looking forward to that. If your kids are animal lovers, that could be a good option too. And Disney Mom Laura swears by Old Key West because the rooms are enormous.

Hope both your WDW trips are great!
