Erin, first Disney trip 08/30-09/07 w DH DD5 DD8. What rare characters might we see at the MNSSHP? Is there a website that posts who's appearing? Is it too scary for DD5? Trying to decide if we should pay extra to do it. Thanks, love the panel!

I'll do my best with this one, but it will be from research rather than experience. I'll be attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party for the first time in late September (along with most of the other Moms Panelists). I can't wait! (Also, if you want some personal tips, repost your question to Darcie or Kara who are MNSSHP pros.)

There is no website that specifically lists which characters will be appearing at the party. Some of the rarer characters that I've seen mentioned in guests' posts about last year's party are Jafar, Malificent, the Wicked Queen, the Queen of Hearts, Judge Claude Frollo, the Walrus (from Alice in Wonderland), the Lion King Hyenas, and all seven of the dwarves. Of course, a big part of the fun is seeing all the regular characters like Mickey and Pooh in their own Halloween costumes. Did I mention that I can't wait?!

It's difficult to predict whether a particular child will be scared by the party. There are potentially scary things in the parks during the event: the Haunted Mansion ghosts in the parade, other guests dressed in ghoulish costumes, spooky music, etc. Most of it is done with a grin, but a particularly skittish child might be afraid. Some things to think about:

    - Would your daughter be comfortable at a costume party?
    - Is she afraid of the dark?
    - If you show her video footage of a ride like the Haunted Mansion (check YouTube) is she excited or afraid?
    - How did she do at Halloween last year?
    - How are her emotional defenses when she's tired? (The party is late.)

The Halloween Party is by all accounts that I've seen a particularly fun and uniquely Disney event, but if your daughter is not yet ready for it, then it might be best to put it off.
