Hi, Erin, My family of 4 has 7 day, PH tickets in May/June. I am considering upgrading to AP. How much would that cost? Also, what would be most cost-effective as far as when to upgrade/activate. Are AP holders eligible for packages, dining plan, etc?

    Hi Rebecca,

To upgrade from a regular or Park Hopper ticket to an Annual Pass, you simply pay the difference between the price of the two tickets.

Prices can change, but currently the price of an adult 7-day Park Hopper is $408.96 (you may have paid something slightly different depending when/how you purchased). The current price of an Annual Pass is $675.21 for both adults and children (this is the non-renewal, non-DVC rate). This means that you'd be charged $266.25 to upgrade an adult ticket. Again, depending on when you purchased your ticket, you may have a slightly different charge than this, but this is the ballpark you'll be in. The upcharge for children will be greater because the cost of the Park Hopper is less for them.

In addition to getting a year's worth of park admission, Annual Pass holders are eligible for a number of discounts. Most notably, there are often significant room rate discounts available for AP holders which can easily offset the $266 fee. You'll also get 10% off almost all merchandise purchases, as well as discounts on some tours, some recreation, and some dining. Depending on your vacation habits, these could all make the AP purchase more than worthwhile, even if you don't spend any additional days in the parks.

If you are a DVC member, there is a special promotion discounting AP prices which you should take advantage of now. If you're not a DVC member, it doesn't much matter when you buy. In any case, you should activate at the last possible moment at the start of your vacation. This way you'll the most time ahead of you on park admission.

AP holders can get the Dining Plan added to their vacations, and as I mentioned, there are often significant room discounts.

Good luck with your planning. Please let me know what else I can do to help.
