Is there any equivalent for Rider Switch for rides that do not allow them? Our son is 9, but is on the spectrum and terrified of some of our favorite rides such as Pirates and Haunted Mansion. We would like to enjoy these rides, yet avoid waiting twice.

    Hi Connie,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I see you’re planning a 2020 visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, and I’m so excited for you to be back in the middle of the magic with your family, enjoying all your favorite attractions, treats, and special moments.

In my experience, Cast Members are wonderful when it comes to questions like yours. I remember one time, we were in the queue for the Haunted Mansion, about to board our Doom Buggy, and my son decided there was NO WAY he was riding. A Cast Member whisked us away through a secret door, and we were back in the fresh air getting calm. When my husband and daughter met us, I took my daughter and approached a Cast Member, and we were able to enter the FastPass+ queue so I could ride (and she got a second ride). It was a spook-tacular experience for all of us!

Connie, even though an attraction isn’t listed on the Rider Switch Service web page, there will likely still be ways the attraction’s Cast Members can make it work for your family. Just approach the Cast Member at the queue’s entrance and explain your situation, and they will help make sure everyone who wants a ride is able. The solutions may look different depending on the attraction and the day’s crowd levels, but I think you’ll find you’re able to ride all your favorites.

Since you mentioned your son is on the Autism spectrum, you may find the Services for Guests with Disabilities web page helpful as you do your planning. Disability Access Service is an option that can provide accommodations to make crowds, waits, and other possible meltdown-inducers easier, and you’re welcome to call (407) 560-2547 if you have any questions.

I hope you love every minute of living a pirate’s life and hosting hitchhiking ghosts on your visit next year, Connie. As you do your counting down, Disney dreaming, and planning, don’t forget to read the Disney Parks Blog for the latest news, and please come back and see us if you have any more questions.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
