We are going to EPCOT with a 5 year old. We think he will love Soarin' if we can get him on it. What happens if he gets on it and after it starts he gets scared. Can the ride be stopped early, or does he have to "ride it out?"

    HI David,

Soarin' is an awesome ride!  I just did it with my 4 year old last summer and he loved it so much we did it twice.  If there is a ride that I have never been on before and I question as to whether or not my kids will like it or not, I do a "test run" myself before making the final decision to take them on it or not.

Talk to your son (with lots of enthusiasm) about the ride and what it is like.  You can even go to the Disney World website and show him a brief video of Soarin'.  Click here to see the video.  Let him know that there will be a few moments of darkness before the "movie" part of the ride begins and again at the end.  That way he'll know what to expect and be excited before he even gets there.

There is a height requirement of a minimum of 40 inches to ride Soarin'.  Make sure your son meets the height requirement before going so he's not disappointed when he gets there if he's not.

I've ridden Soarin' lots of times and have never heard anything but great things about it.  If your son starts to get scared, take his mind off of it by pointing out the really "cool" things and the screen and that you can even smell oranges when you fly over the orange groves.   If you still have some reservations about him getting on, speak to a cast member at the entrance of the ride.  Safety is the first priority at Disney.

Keep in mind that this ride is extremely popular and the lines get long quickly.  Try to get to the park when it opens and head to Soarin'.  If the line is too long when you get there, pick up a Fast Pass and come back later - its a slow moving line.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.  Have a magical trip!
