Is there an educational value for children on an Eastern Carribean Cruise on Magic? We are first time cruisers. I think it would be amazing to talk to crew members from other countries and maybe other guests as well...anything else?

    Hi, Vicki!

There is educational value and enhancement anytime we travel. My four children learn infinitely more by doing than by listening. Instead of memorizing facts about places and things, all that we see and do while on a Disney cruise is permanently impressed on their minds and part of an overall enriching experience.

We research the states and countries which we will visit. We check out books and videos from the library, and the kids look online for climate and weather predictions for the area. I tweak our family packing list for the particular trip we're taking and oversee each child's preparations as they attempt to cross off the items. Although it can a little nerve-wracking for me, I also allow my children to hold their travel documents individually when we go through the various checkpoints at the airport or cruise terminal. Just getting there can be one of the greatest "field trips" of all time!

Once we're onboard, we not only meet and talk to crew members and other guests from foreign countries -- we become great friends! The crew members literally hail from all over the world and many guests do as well. Therefore, I encourage my children to keep a journal while we sail -- it helps to keep track of all that information in order to document our photos and videos later. Plus, they can easily write down pen-pal addresses in their journals.

In addition, check out your daily Personal Navigator which is delivered nightly to your stateroom. Read every event or activity so as not to miss an opportunity for a tour, demonstration or class which will expose your children (and you) to something new or different. My children have learned about the places, people, culture and history of the areas where we've traveled and picked up new skills such as animal towel folding, origami and even cooking!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
