My DW and I are visiting Nov 29 - Dec 2. Normally we rent a car but want to save a little money. We are staying at the POR, how time consuming will the DME and Disney Transportation options be during this time period? We more than likely will not park hop.

    Hi Dez!

Using the free Disney transportation is a great way to save money, but it does mean it will take you a little bit longer to get somewhere than if you have your own car; the only exception is getting to the Magic Kingdom, as Disney transportation will generally get you there faster because it will drop you off right in front of the Magic Kingdom as opposed to dropping you off at the Transportation and Ticket Center.

For example, instead of a 30 minute drive from Orlando International Airport, it might take as long as 2 hours to get to your hotel using Disney's Magical Express.  That's only because you might have to wait for a bus, then wait for the bus to leave the airport, and finally the bus might stop at a couple of hotels before reaching yours.

Once you are at Disney World, getting to and from the theme parks is not difficult, but you should plan on about 40 minutes, which includes waiting for the bus in the first place as well as the fact that the bus will stop at a couple of bus stops at Port Orleans.

The only difficult thing to do when relying solely on Disney transportation is getting from one hotel to another.  For example, to get from Port Orleans Riverside to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, you would have to first go to Downtown Disney or to a theme park and then transfer to a bus going to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Obviously, this is only a concern if you have a need to go to another hotel, such as you're going to have dinner there.

You're going during a great time of the year!  Have a magical vacation.
