Going to DW over Thanksgiving. We arrive in Orlando around 10am, then using Magical Express to Carib. Resort. After check in, what is the best plan for that first half day? I know the parks will be full by mid-day. Better to do something else???

Yo, Suzanne! I like to think that I'm a pretty logical guy. I devise a comprehensive plan of what we should see when along with optimal dining times and locations.

All that being said, no matter what the crowd levels look like and so long as the park is open for at least three more hours after we arrive, we always go to Magic Kingdom.

It doesn't feel like our vacation has truly begun until we look up Main Street and see the castle.

You'd have plenty of time to subscribe to that plan.

If you're thinking about avoiding the parks though, an early dinner / character meal at one of the resorts outside of the parks (Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fair) would be a nice leisurely way to begin your vacation. Downtown Disney is another option, as is staying put at your resort. The main pool at Caribbean Beach is awesome, and you can turn in early in order to wake up early the next day and hit the parks running.
