We will be driving to WDW each morning since we are staying with family while in FL. I know for Lady lake FL to WDW is 1.5 hours but how much extra time to I need to have to get parked and up to the gate?

Hi Meagan, and a big welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Your Walt Disney World vacation is literally just days away. You must be getting so excited! And how lucky that you can visit family while you're here. You have a place to stay and built-in tour guides. I know we love to show our visiting friends and family how we "do Disney."

My family lives exactly one hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so we always have to factor in parking. It's a good idea to build in your travel time not just on the road, but from your car to the gate as well. Here's a general guideline:

    • Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios - If you arrive at park opening, you'll often be parked in the front half of the lot. Then it's an easy 5-minute walk or so to the bag check line. If you're farther back and need to catch the tram, it's still a quick ride. You probably only need an extra 15 minutes if it's not a peak crowd day.
    • Disney's Animal Kingdom Park - You'll likely need to take the tram from the parking lot here, but again, it's not a terribly long wait. I'd plan an extra 15 to 20 minutes for parking and boarding the tram.
    • Magic Kingdom Park - Here's where getting from the parking lot to the park is trickier. Once you've left the car in your parking space, you'll need to catch the tram unless you're in one of the very front rows. The tram will take you to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you'll board either a monorail or ferry to the park entrance. Parking space to entrance touchpoints at the Magic Kingdom can take 30 minutes or more depending on crowds.

There's more information you might find useful on the Walt Disney World parking page.

I hope this helps you plan your practically perfect Disney day, Meagan. Please come visit us again if you have any more questions. We love to help!

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
