We are going on the Dream in May and I am starting to plan our packing. For onboard dining, are dress shorts acceptable for boys (age 5)? or for men? Sundresses are easy for the girls, the boys are trickier with the heat. Thank you!

    Hi, Erika!

Congratulations on your upcoming cruise aboard the Disney Dream -- she is a beautiful and stylish ship. You're going to think you're living a dream when you sail!

A cruise is an extra special vacation, and because of its opulent surroundings, many guests enjoy dressing up more than if they were going to the parks. Disney Cruise Line requests that guests who dine in the restaurants -- Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden and Royal Palace -- wear "cruise casual" attire.  That simply means that you should not wear jeans, shorts or t-shirts.

Of course, I personally think it would be acceptable for a 5-year-old young man to wear shorts...especially dress shorts.  Yet, I think men should definitely wear long pants...even if they are casual pants.  I actually request that all my boys -- 3 sons and a husband -- wear khaki pants and a collared shirt each night to dinner. I like to have pictures taken of the family all dressed up.  Of course, on pirate night, we're decked out in full piratical accessories -- eye patches, hooks and all!

Also, if you are thinking of making a reservation at Palo or Remy, the men will need a dinner jacket and the ladies a dress or pantsuit.  And about the heat...it actually is a little cool in the restaurants after a day of being in the sun. I hope that helps you plan.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
