Is the dolphin resort appropriate for 12 year old daughter?

    Hi, Laura!

I think that both the Swan and Dolphin resorts are such gems!  You cannot beat their location on the Boardwalk.  It is about a 15 minute walk to either Hollywood Studios or Epcot, or you may choose to use the boat transportation.

The pool area is amazing!  The FIVE pools are huge, there is a sandy beach, and plenty of palm trees to shade you from the sun.  Your daughter will never want to leave the resort pools!

There are also some great restaurants.  We really like Il Mulino, the Italian restaurant in the Swan (if you plan to eat there, check www.restaurant.com , they sometimes offer gift certificates at a reduced price.)   It is upscale, but your daughter will find plenty to eat with delicious pasta and pizza.

Our favorite place for breakfast is Picabu.  They have the tastiest breakfast potatoes!  They are open 24/7 and serve cafeteria style, but really good food!  Something for everyone in your family.

There is a whole list of activities for kids, adults and families.  Everything from jogging trails to volleyball to fine dining.

If there is a downside to the Swan and Dolphin it is that they are not actually Disney-owned resorts.  You will not be able to use Disney's Magical Express service or charge back to your room from the theme parks.  There is also a daily resort fee, and a daily parking fee, so take these extra charges into account when selecting your resort.   Even with the extra charges, we often select the Swan or Dolphin for the location, views from select rooms, and overall enjoyment.

I really think your daughter will like the Dolphin, and it's sister resort the Swan.  They are a destination resort;  You will almost forget you are steps away from Walt Disney World theme parks!   Have fun!
