We are doing the 3 night Bahama cruise in May for our honeymoon. We are not getting off at Nassau, and will instead enjoy the ship that day. We are planning on getting off the ship at Castaway Cay. Will we need a passport?

    Ahoy Michelle!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I can't think of a better place to celebrate your honeymoon than on a Disney Cruise Line vacation. There's so much to see and do on a Disney Cruise, and you can do as much or as little as you wish! You can have a cruise full of daily activities and entertainment, or spend time relaxing and just being together. That's what I love most about cruising with Disney - it's easy and fun to create the kind of vacation that works best for you.

At this time, U.S. Citizens departing from and returning to the same U.S. port (such as your honeymoon cruise in May) are able to use a Photo I.D. and certified birth certificate to board the ship and re-enter the country. That being said, passport regulations are always changing. Disney Cruise Line "strongly recommends" that all guests have a valid U.S. Passport. For up-to-date, current passport regulations, check out www. travel.state.gov .

If you were to encounter an emergency (medical emergency, emergency stop in a foreign country, a late return from an excursion causing you to miss the ship, etc.) that required air travel, passports would be required. For that reason, my husband and I got passports a few years ago- just to be safe. Though I'm really not fond of my passport photo, the lady who took it assures me I'll love it in ten years when it's time to get renewed. I guess that's one way to look at it!

It usually takes around 6-8 weeks to get a passport, so there's plenty of time to make a decision before your sailing in May.

I hope this helps! Please come back and visit us here at the Moms Panel if you have any further questions. Best wishes to you both! - Diane W.
