Crossing the Finish Line

I am doing the Disney Princess Half Marathon and need to fly home the same day. I know the race begins at 530 am. What would be a safe time to book a flight for given post race activities, change over and magical express transit?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Natasha! I’ve run the runDisney Princess Half Marathon several times and have also run with friends that depart on the same day. While I like to stay and chill in the Parks, there are plenty of folks that dash to the airport when festivities are over.

The first corral, elite running and wheelchair divisions will the be the first to go at 5:30. I’m typically in the G-L corrals (which start running around 6:30 am) and when I run I pace an 11 minute mile, stopping for characters and fun along the way. I’m typically back in my hotel room by 9:30, showering changing and resting (I make quick and efficient work of the post-race village). With a Disney Resort Hotel checkout time of 11, you could easily catch a flight departing MCO airport around 4-7pm, EST. Since Disney’s Magical Express picks me up 3 hours or so before my flight leaves, that should give you an idea of when your bus will arrive at your Resort. Don’t forget to pick up your medal, race snacks and stop into the merchandise tent for any items you may have forgotten at the ESPN Wide World Of Sports Expo. It’s easy to get excited and pass up that car magnet.

If I can help you pace your way through your upcoming RACEcation, please let me know. You’ve got a friend in me! ~ Lindsey P.
