I have been to Disneyland twice and never purchased a meal plan. (although we were only there 2 nights each time). It seems that most people purchase meal plans for WDW. What is the advantage to doing this? Other than having meals payed for ahead of time?

    Hi Kristina,

I love Disneyland! It is such fun to visit the original inspiration for the Walt Disney World Resorts!

Guests use the Disney Dining plan for a variety of reasons and I am not sure that all the guest purchase this option. Some guests have packages that include free dining.

When it comes to the dining plan, each family needs to evaluate how it benefits them. If you have children under the age of nine, it is definitely a good deal. If you have someone who can eat a lot of food such as a growing teenager, it is a good deal. If you like finer dining, it is a good deal because you can reduce the cost of an expensive meal.

Some disadvantages are that everyone in your party needs to be on the dining plan if purchase a dining package. You also have a lot of food at each meal that some people can not always eat.

What I recommend you do is to look at a few restaurants and choose the items you would purchase on the plan. I would calculate the price of the meal and then compare the out of pocket cost vs the dining plan. If you are consistently over the dining plan price, purchase the plan. If you are under, stick with the traditional method.

Both the Disney website and AllEarsNet.com have prices listed.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
