Fireworks at Magic Kingdom

I will be in Disney with a 5 and a 6 1/2 year old and would love to watch the firework. Would you recommend taking a mid-day break (they no longer nap) and coming back to the park or just watching the fireworks from our hotel? Trying to avoid meltdowns.

    Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. Watching the nighttime shows at Walt Disney World is such a magical part of a vacation. Whether you are considering seeing Wishes Nighttime Spectacular at Magic Kingdom, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot, or one of the nighttime fireworks shows at Disney's Hollywood Studios, these are always a wonderful way to end a Disney day.

Given the ages of your children, I suggest that you choose one or possibly two nights to be your "fireworks nights" while at Walt Disney World. When our daughter was about the age of your children, we realized that she could stay up once or twice per vacation for nighttime shows, but any more than that and she would start to get cranky due to lack of sleep. I like your option on the day that you are going to see fireworks to head back to your resort and take a mid-day break. Even though your children no longer nap, some quiet time at your resort, possibly reading, coloring, or watching television, can help them to gather the energy that they will need to stay up later that night. Also, even children who no longer nap at home may be able to take naps during a busy vacation! While seeing the fireworks from Disney resorts can be a really neat experience, you are a bit removed from the fireworks. For young ones, I think that being right in the theme park for the fireworks gives the most immersive experience. Also please note that you cannot see the fireworks from all resorts, so you would need to check to be sure that you can see them from your resort if you are considering that option.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Tim. Please do let us know if you have any further questions!
