After going to Disney World many times with our grandchildren, one of our granddaughters is turning 13. This is an important portal into teenage-hood and we want to make this a birthday to remember. Any tips for us?

    Hi Debra,

Happy 13 to your granddaughter! What a great place to celebrate a birthday! Both of my daughters were in Disney for their 16 birthday. For my youngest, she was at a lacrosse tournament at the Wide World of Sports so she chose to go to the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner. Of course, the Yachtsman provided her with singing and a dessert!

My oldest wanted to dine at Teppan Edo and do the Wild Africa Trek. She is a huge animal lover and she wanted to be up close to the animals. This was a special treat for her and I to share. We had special mother-daughter time which included hiking on a safari and eating on a savannah.

My tip would be to let your granddaughter chose a day to plan that is all her own to design. She can pick the park, add a tour or experience and someplace special to dine. You can set the parameters and it will be a special memory for her.

My daughters are not ones to get dressed up on vacation but if they know they are going to one of their favorite restaurants, they love it. California Grill with Magic Kingdom fireworks is very special. Maybe you sit at the Chef's Table or go to her favorite character meal.

    Wishing you a magical day!
