I've never been to Disney World and am thinking of taking my daughter, who will be 7, the first week of May 2013. Is 5 days long enough or should we go with 7? Also, I was wondering which resort in the value or moderate category would be best? Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer!

We're neighbors; I live in New Jersey too.

I vote for the seven day stay at Walt Disney World because you'll want to spend at least four days in the main theme parks (no less than one full day per theme park).  It's nice if you can plan a day of rest at your home resort mid-week during your trip.  For instance, plan to arrive on day one, hit two theme parks on days two and three, and then plan to sleep in on day four and go shopping at Downtown Disney.  Then you'll be rested and ready to hit the two remaining theme parks on days five and six.  Day seven would be departure day.  A five day trip is certainly better than none at all, but if given the choice to be there for seven days, I'd opt for the seven day stay.  You can proceed at a more relaxed pace and get more accomplished.

With regard to choosing a Disney resort, I'd opt for Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter.  Situated in the center of Disney property, it is relatively close to everything.  It's the smallest and, in my opinion, my charming of the moderate resorts.  There's only one bus stop and no building is far from the resort center.  I think this is a fabulous option for first time visitors.  I stayed there last month and simply adored it!
