Hi, we're going to Disney World this summer Aug.13 - Aug.19. I've been reading that we should expect daily summer afternoon showers. We just wanted to know how long do these showers last? Do the attractions and rides stop at all during showers?

    Hi Jamie,

You almost certainly will see a few afternoon showers during August, but the good news is that they seldom last for very long. Unless the rain is very intense (as it can be for short periods) or there is a lot of lightning, many rides and attractions go on as normal.

I recommend packing an inexpensive, compact poncho for each member of your family. The showers can come up fast, and you want to be prepared. Plus, if you have purchased brightly colored ponchos at a discount store or other outlet before you left home, you will be able to keep track of your family in the sea of Mickey ponchos. If you will have a stroller, bring along an extra poncho to help keep the seat dry.

One advantage of mid-afternoon rain: A lot of people vacate the parks when the drops start falling. You may find that during and just after a shower are great times to hit popular attractions. Or use the time to have a snack or a drink and rest up a bit for more afternoon fun.

My family seldom lets the rain slow us down. In fact, we usually find it is a welcome break from the summer Florida sun.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can answer other questions for you. Enjoy!
