Hello! We will be in Disney in 4 weeks for our two year olds first trip and birthday week! We are staying at the Polynesian and specifically planned it that way to be close for naps etc. Do you have any general suggestions for Disney with a 2 year old?!

Hi Dan! Is your family getting so excited for this milestone trip? I'll actually be at Walt Disney World Resort with my own 2-year-old the same time you'll be there. While this isn't my son's first trip to Meet Mickey, we have so many memories enjoying both the planned and unplanned moments of our previous trips.

You made a really good call in booking a close resort hotel for nap time. Disney's Polynesian Resort Village has an amazing splash pool and water play area, Kiki Tikis, which is a great way to burn off some energy. (So pack swimsuits!) You also have amazing dining options at your hotel should your toddler derail your dining plans.

As far as activities for preschoolers in the parks, you'll for sure want to plan some Character Experiences, which I feel are worth the use of a FastPass+ selection. Your child can participate in the majority of attractions with you, but on the bigger rides where you're using the Rider Switch Service, head to the play-place type tunnel & slide areas to run out some energy. Animal Kingdom has The Boneyard, Epcot hosts the Advance Training Lab, and by the exit of Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom Park is The Laughin' Place.

Feel free to bring any outside food or drinks that your child may need, Disney only asks no glass containers. And you'll definitely want to grab a Birthday AND a My First Visit celebration button at check-in or from Guest Relations. Wear them proudly as they have been known to hold a little bit of pixie dust.

Your family is going to have an amazing vacation, Dan, and we'll see you real soon!
