We will be in Disney for my son's 2nd birthday. I want to make it extra special but at the same time I don't want his older brother (who will be 4 years old at the time) to get jealous. So any ideas for eating, special things to do with two boys?

    Donna:

As a mother of four, I learned a long time ago that I couldn't afford to buy gifts for my other children when one celebrated a birthday!

You didn't necessarily come here for parenting advice, but if I could just give you a silver bullet: begin now to establish the tradition that each child's birthday is special--and all about them.  If everyone is made to feel "special" no one really is. (Kinda reminds me of Syndrome's philosophy in the movie "The Incredibles": when everyone's a superhero, no one will be....)

Getting your 4-year-old "in" on whatever the celebration is, whether helping him pick out the decorations on a cake you order from the cake HOTLINE or helping you find something in one of the gift shops to present on the special day can help move any feelings of jealousy into feelings of helpfulness and equal quality time and attention spent on him.

One last thought:  On our last trip, our 5-year-old wore his birthday button EVERY day of the trip, and because he was the baby of the family we thought it was funny when he said, "Is it still my birthday?"  But looking back, how much more special would it have been if we had celebrated WELL at ONE restaurant vs. getting a cupcake with a candle in it at several sit-down restaurants throughout the week....

So, with that said, to answer your question in a nutshell: make reservations at a Character Dining Restaurant like Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace, even Hollywood & Vine and order the Mickey Head Cake ($48 plus tax & gratuity) from the cake hotline 407-827-2253 OR if you're on a budget visit T-Rex and end the meal with its Chocolate Extinction complete with dry ice!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
