i have been to disney once and would like to take my grandson, who just turned five. What is best way for me and my husband to do this and not break the bank? We would like to do a dining plan too.

Hi Altvater! What wonderful memories you'll make taking your grandson to Walt Disney World! I'm always looking for ways to get the most bang for my buck on my Disney vacations, so I can definitely help you out with some money-saving tips.

First, visit the Special Offers page on the Disney website where you'll find discounted resort rooms and vacation packages. Currently Disney's offering the Dining Plan for free for guests visiting during certain dates in September, so that might be a great time to take your grandson! Make sure you register your mailing address and email address on the Disney website, and price out some vacation packages online or by calling 407-WDISNEY. Sometimes if Disney knows you're thinking about visiting, you'll receive a special discount code in your email or mailbox for a reduced room rate!

For lodging, check out the value resorts, such as the All-Star Movies or the Pop Century. They're not luxurious, but have fun themes, budget-friendly prices, and like all Disney resorts, give you perks such as extra hours in the parks and the free Magical Express airport shuttle service.

Definitely take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours for Disney resort guests, which allows you to experience lots of attractions with little waiting. Plan your visit for less crowded times of year -- the resort rates are lower then and since there are fewer people in the parks, you spend your time riding attractions rather than waiting in lines.  You can reduce your ticket cost by omitting the Park Hopper option and just visiting one theme park per day. Bring bottled water, snacks, and quick breakfast items from home to save money on food. The Dining Plan can be a good deal if you're planning lots of character meals or tend to order the more expensive items on the menus.
