Hi! We are going to Disney in October for my son's 8th birthday. I am looking for some suggestions for his birthday dinner. We will already be doing breakfast at Chef Mickey's and do not want to go there twice. Not really interested in the castle either.

Character meals are great. If you'd like to do a character meal for his birthday dinner, a good option is the Garden Grill meal at Epcot (a revolving restaurant!). But there are plenty of other special activities and meals that might make his day special. Here are some ideas:

    - The Rainforest Cafe or T-Rex Cafe. Lots of noise and cool special effects.

    - The behind-the-scenes Wild Africa Trek. This is one of the very few backstage activities that allow children starting at age 8. He could see hippos and crocs up close and have a meal on the safari. This is not dinner, but it is a wonderful birthday treat. For more info call 407-WDW-TOUR.

    - The Hoop Dee Doo Revue show. My family goes to the HDDR every year and we never fail to have a great time. The jokes are perfect for elementary age kids and they make a fuss over birthdays.

    - The Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise - watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from a boat with some hilarious pirate guides.

    - Dinner at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. It's like you're at a drive-in movie. Fun!

I hope you and your son have a wonderful Walt Disney World experience.
