Can the Disney MagicBand be used on the Disney cruises?

    Ahoy, Tamara!

Thanks for cruising in with your question!

Walt Disney World Resort's MagicBand technology has done so much to streamline and simplify my Disney vacations. No longer do I have to dig through my purse or backpack to find my theme park ticket, credit card, room key, FastPass+ ticket or PhotoPass card - my MagicBand functions as all of those things! MagicBands have really been a game changer when it comes to Walt Disney World vacations.

Unfortunately, MagicBand technology hasn't made it out to sea aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships. Disney Cruise Line issues guests Key to the World cards upon check in, which will serve as your boarding pass, stateroom key, and shipboard charge card. Disney Cruise Line ships are a cash-free environment - all your purchases can be made using your Key to the World. While it's not in the form of a colorful wristband, it serves most of the same purposes as a MagicBand. Most guests will wear their Key to the World around their neck on a lanyard.

If you have a child in your sailing party that will be spending time in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab (for ages 3-12), he/she will be issued an armband to wear throughout your cruise. The armbands look identical to MagicBands, but are only used for kids to gain entry into the club. On our last cruise, the bands had pictures of Captain Mickey on them - so cute. The bands are available for purchase for a small fee, if your child would like to take it home as a fun souvenir!
