Disney Magic 2015. We were wondering if we can pay our gratuities with cash or will we end up having them charged to our account onboard. Also wondering for excursions. We budget better with cash. Thank you!

Welcome aboard, Jennifer! You'll have lots of time to plan all of the excitement that is in store for you on the newly re-imagined Disney Magic!

Disney Cruise Line is now having gratuities be pre-paid, so you can do this with an agent over the phone at Disney Cruise Line before you set sail, which helps with budgeting for sure.

Typically, the traditional gratuities are as follows: (per guest, including kids, per night of the sailing):

    Stateroom Host: $4
    Server: $4
    Assistant Server: $3
    Head Server: $1

Port Adventures can be booked before you sail, and they do fill up, so book as soon as your window opens (75 days prior to sailing for first time guests). These charges go on your stateroom account once you are onboard. If you choose to not put a credit card on your account, that is absolutely fine, and you can settle your account with cash. You'll be using your Key To The World Card to charge any purchases to your stateroom since the ship is cash free. But, you'll have access to charging $300 to your account (for sailings up to five nights, or limit of $500 for 6-9 night cruises) before you'll need to stop down to Guest Services to settle that account with cash and get access to another charging limit on your Key To The World Card.

Alternately, what my family does is to stock up on Disney Gift Cards in the months before we sail. We then use those to add as credits to our stateroom account (either prior to sailing or onboard at Guest Services). Since our local grocery store, Kroger, offers fuel rewards on gift card purchases, I stock up on Disney Gift Cards when they have quadruple fuel rewards, so I save a ton of money on our gas fill-ups for the car, just by setting aside money for our Disney cruises! What a win-win! You are from Ohio too, so your Kroger most likely offers this deal as well!

I hope those ideas help as you plan, Jennifer! Stop back again if I can help answer any other questions!
