We are going to disney 12/22 - 12/26. The only good dining options available now are at downtown disney each night. Is there transportation directly from the parks to downtown disney? Our hotel does offer ferry service but were hoping to save some time

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. I'll do my best to give you the information you need to make your transportation as easy as possible.

The complimentary Walt Disney World buses do not run from the theme parks directly to Downtown Disney so, for the most part, using the bus to your resort, then taking the water taxi is your best option.

There are a couple of exceptions. If you are at Magic Kingdom, you can walk to the Contemporary or take the monorail to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian and catch the bus to Downtown Disney from one of those resorts. My family frequently walks to the Contemporary and uses that option.

If you are at Epcot, you can exit through the International Gateway between the United Kingdom and France pavilions and walk or take the water taxi to Boardwalk to catch the Downtown Disney bus. This also is relatively quick, especially if you are in the World Showcase already.

In all of these cases, I would plan to allow at least an hour for transportation time, maybe a little more since you are visiting during the very busy holiday season.

There is one faster option, but it's not free -- a taxi.

Cabs are readily available outside each theme park and resort hotel, and the cost of a ride between any point on Disney property is generally less than $20, including tip. My family relies almost exclusively on the free Disney transportation when we are on property, but occasionally we splurge on a cab when time is short or we are extra tired after a day in the parks.

I hope that helps. Wishing you a magical holiday visit to the Walt Disney World resort!
