I will be going to Disney for the first time with my family (2 & 4 yr old) We have the ability to stay at shades of green because of my dad. Would you suggest us to stay there ? Or. Moderate? for best 1st Disney experience?

Hello, Erika! I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am to hear about your family’s first visit to Walt Disney World Resort! Please tell your Dad thank you for his service!

Located near Magic Kingdom park, your entire family will love Shades of Green Resort, which has its own transportation system and amenities (including a full golf course), though it is not owned or operated by The Walt Disney Company.   It features 586 oversized rooms and offers incredible deals and ticket packages for members of the U.S. armed forces and their family members.  Your Dad will need to book the rooms for you and stay on property with you; it’s one of the requirements for being a guest.   I had the great pleasure of staying there this year with my brother, who serves in the Coast Guard.

If you want all the benefits of a full Disney Vacation, be sure to acquire Magic Bands for all family members over the age of 2, so you can fully access the all the magic of Disney and can travel lighter with park tickets and fast passes included.  Magic Bands will not be assigned to Shades of Green visitors. Also, you’ll want to use the My Disney Experience app for planning fast passes, dining reservations, finding wait times and to find attractions that fit your family.

Another resort to consider is the Art of Animation Resort, which has family suites.  They are comfortable and gorgeously decorated.  Staying on property is my favorite part of a Walt Disney World vacation!

Wherever you rest your head, I hope you have a magical first vacation! ~Lindsey
