We're going to disney in Feb. and my 7 year old daughter is a real horse enthusiast. I'd like to sign up for the trail ride at the fort wilderness resort, but I can't find any age requirements. Would my 5 year old be able to go too? How do I reserve it?

    Hi MaryEllen,

I am sad to tell you that the minimum age requirement for the Horseback Riding at Fort Wilderness Campground is 9 years old and at least 48" tall.  I had the same problem with my daughter a few years ago when she wanted in the worst way to ride the horses and couldn't because she was not old enough (even though her height was right).

You could take them both on a carriage ride instead (if that could replace the urge to ride the horses).  They do offer carriage rides at Fort Wilderness on a nightly basis and they are a nice way to unwind at WDW while still enjoying the horses.  For any further questions or to make reservations for any activity at Fort Wilderness Campground, you can call 407-WDW-PLAY (407-939-7529).

One other suggestion is to take both girls over to the petting zoo (next to Pioneer Hall) where they do offer pony rides for children over the age of 2 years old, under 45 inches and weighing under 80lbs with an adult leading them.  Afterwards you could take them across from the petting zoo to visit the horses in the barn (both the big horses and Cinderella's ponies used to pull her carriage).  I hope you have a magical time.

    Best wishes,
