We are going to Disney the end of October 2008. We have stayed at the Grand Floridian several times. What do you think about the Yacht or Beach Club ? We have a 7 year old. Mid day breaks and a good pool are still important - yet looking for a change.

Hi! I have stayed at the both the Grand Floridian and the Beach Club several times. I think the Floridian is one of the most beautiful hotels in the US, and that monorail access to the Magic Kingdom is completely convenient. However, I'd have to say that the Beach Club is my children's favorite hotel at WDW (and they've stayed at MANY of them). My girls are now ages 8 and 11, and the Beach Club has been their favorite for several years. The pool at the Yacht & Beach Club (the two resorts share one pool complex) is called Stormalong Bay and it is spectacular. The entire pool area is three acres big. It has several unique zones including a sandy-bottomed area for wading and castles, a "lazy river" for drifting along in a raft, a fast-moving whirlpool, regular swimming areas, and large and small water slides. On our most recent trip to WDW (February 2008) we spent almost an entire day just at the Beach Club pool.

As far as planning our trip goes, we usually take the bus in the morning to the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom and enjoy the park for the first half of the day. Then we return to the hotel for a swim in the fabulous pool. We make our dinner plans for Epcot or Disney's Hollywood Studios each night. These are both very close (even walk-able) to the Yacht and Beach Club. We have a great dinner and do a few rides at our second park before heading back to the hotel for bed. I love love love having a meal at the Rose and Crown at Epcot and then walking back to Beach Club and having the kids tucked into bed 15 minutes later. To me, this is almost as convenient as the morning monorail from the Grand Floridian to the Magic Kingdom, plus I find the dinner options at Epcot to be far superior to those at the Magic Kingdom.
