Is the Dining Plan worth getting? I heard some restaurants are worth 2 credits...Have you ever run out of credits?

    Hi Melinda,

The Disney Dining plan is "worth it" in many situations, but it's not for everyone. It can be a big help for some families with their budgeting. In general, it makes the most financial sense if you're a planner and can get all the meal reservations you want, if you're a hearty eater, and if you're not a vegetarian.

There are some restaurants that cost two Dining Plan credits. These are the dinner shows, the signature (gourmet) restaurants, and Cinderella's Royal Table. If you want to eat at many of these venues and you're on the basic dining plan, then yes, it possible to run out of credits. In this case, you could just pay for more meals out of pocket rather than with credits.

To determine if the Dining Plan makes sense for you, you really need to do some math. Head over to the independent website allears.net. They feature the menus, with pricing, of every WDW restaurant. Map out several days of what you think your family might eat and add up the prices. Then compare this with the cost of the dining plan.

You can find an example on how to do this on the independent website blog.touringplans.com. Search there for an article by Stacey Lantz called "Dissecting Disney's Deluxe Dining Plan." She looks at the finances of the deluxe plan, but you can do the same thing with the basic plan.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We're happy to help.
