I am a diabetic and have recently had a heart bypass operation I am still very weak. I have a UK disabled parking badge can i use that to park closer and I am unable to stand for long periods of time so could i get a GAC?

    Hi Katherine,

Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.  I am glad to hear that you are recovering from your operation and will be coming to Walt Disney World.  A visit to such a wonderful place is always healing!

I did some searching regarding your disabled parking badge from the United Kingdom.  According to a cast member with whom I spoke, your UK disabled parking badge will allow you to use the parking spaces for guest with disabilities at the Walt Disney World theme parks.  However, if you are planning to go anywhere other than Walt Disney World and the four theme parks, your UK disabled parking permit might not be honored.  In this case, you would need to obtain a temporary disabled parking permit for the United States.  There is a lot of good information about how to do this at thedibb.co.uk.  Simply go the the forum for special needs and search for information on disabled parking.

Once you are at the theme parks, you will be able to obtain a Guest Assistance Card (GAC).  Guest Assistance Cards are available at Guest Relations at any of the four theme parks.  Once you have a Guest Assistance Card, it will be good for the length of your stay and at any of the Disney theme parks, so you only need to get it once.  You can show the Guest Assistance Card to the Cast Member at the beginning of any attraction queue, and that Cast Member can help to accommodate your needs in relation to the queue.  Please know that a Guest Assistance Card does not guarantee immediate access to any attraction, but is very helpful for guests with special needs.

I hope that this information helps, Katherine.  Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions, and have a lovely time on your trip to Walt Disney World.
