We have just decided to travel to WDW in January 2009. I'm wondering if that gives us enough time to plan. Do you think the parks would be busier during the week of Jan 18-24 becuase of the holiday or would Jan 4-10 be a better time to travel.

Because you will be visiting during one of the least crowded times of the year, I would think that you should be fine, planning timewise.  I tend to fall into the chronic planners camp so I would recommend that you decide on your trip dates and get started with your plans as soon as possible.

As for which of the dates you suggested in January would be better, I would recommend that you opt for the later dates, the 18th through the 24th.  Not only would that give you more time to nail down the details of your trip, but you'd also avoid the Walt Disney World marathon which takes place January 8th through the 11th.  While the crowds for that event aren't completely overwhelming, they are noticeable.  You'll likely enjoy shorter line times and an overall less crowded visit if you choose to go during that third full week of January.

    Hope that helps!
