We are 67 days out from our September Disney World trip and this is our first time! Excited! We have the free dining plan for the 8 days of our trip and spending 1 day at Universal. How much should I budget for extras? There are only 3 of us.

    Hi there, Heather!

Congratulations on your upcoming very first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort! I bet your whole family is about as excited as they could be!

I'm thrilled to hear that you were able to take advantage of the Free Dining promotion that's going on this year. I can't think of a better way for your family to be able to experience the magic of the Disney restaurants than with this great promotion. What a savings!

It is important to keep in mind that while the Free Dining Plan will cover your bill for food and most non-alcoholic beverages, it will not cover your gratuities at the restaurants. So, as an example, if your family wants to enjoy a Character Meal at Chef Mickey's and your bill is, let's say $90, you'll need to be prepared to pay the 18-20% gratuity. I find it very helpful to view the different menus of the restaurants at for pricing. This way, you can get somewhat of an idea of how much you'll need to budget for.

You may also want to come up with a dollar amount for souvenirs. Sometimes I've given my kiddos a daily amount that they can spend however they choose, but their favorite is when I give them a set amount, like $50, to spend however they choose during our entire vacation. There are so many fun things to choose from!

I sure hope this helps, Heather! Please feel free to write back in with any other planning questions you have!

Wishing you and your family a Pixie Dusted vacation!
