My 5 yo daughters father tragically and suddenly passed in August. One of the greatest memories she has is when we took our Disney vacation in 2017. I am looking for a special way to help my daughter honor him on our February 2019 return. Any ideas?

I am so very sorry, Amanda, for the sad loss your family is having to endure. I'm glad your daughter has that special trip to Walt Disney World that contains happy memories of her dad.

My first thought always goes to clothing, as I see so many people at the parks wearing t-shirts with photos of their loved one. You could do a shirt with her dad's favorite character. That way, she sort of has him with her through the trip.

Make a toast at a special meal. We raised glasses of orange juice at a Crystal Palace character breakfast after my sister passed away. Winnie the Pooh was her favorite, and she loved this restaurant.

Involve others. I know of guests that handed out bubbles to children waiting in lines (always ask mom or dad), bought a balloon for a crying child, gave out the small Disney Tsum Tsum characters to older guests (our local dollar store has them), or gave up their place in line at a busy attraction to someone with small children who were headed to the back of a long line. It's a pay the love forward kind of thing.

Involve your daughter. Does she remember a special place or have a memory of a special snack that she shared with her dad that she wants to revisit? Maybe make a quiet visit to the wishing well near Cinderella Castle, and have her toss a coin in. The money collected is donated to charity.

Whatever you do, start a new tradition - something special just between the two of you. It's a way to build new, happy memories.

    Much love, Amanda.
