Mom And Son On Run

Hello My daughter and I just returned from our disney vacation. My daughter is almost 12 she likes princesses but she thinks she is to old. What do you think?I bought her a disney princess dress. Could she wear it next time?

The choice is up to her. I will tell you that the vast majority of children wearing costumes in the parks are in the 2 to 8 age range. However, I have seen girls as old as perhaps 12 or 13 wearing princess gear in the parks.

I just asked my own 12-year-old daughter if she would wear a princess costume at WDW and she gave me the Mom-is-completely-certifiable eye roll. So I'm guessing that she thinks she's too old :-)  But since you're on vacation to have fun, if wearing a princess dress would make your daughter happy, then I say go for it.  But if she's going to feel awkward or uncomfortable being the oldest girl in a princess dress, then maybe it's time to put it away.

You should be aware that while children are welcome to wear costumes at any time at WDW, there is a prohibition against adults wearing costumes in the parks. If your daughter is past puberty and looks like a teen rather than a child, she might be denied park admission while in costume. The exception to this is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Children and adults are welcome to wear costumes for this event as long as the costume would not make the wearer mistaken for a regular Disney character.

If your daughter loves the princesses, there are other ways for her to get her fix other than wearing a costume. You could go to a character meal. I was with my too-cool-for-costumes 12-year-old at Cinderella's Royal Table last month. She hugged Snow White and had a nice chat with Belle, and felt perfectly comfortable doing that in her street clothes. There are plenty of princess-themed T-shirts for sale in the parks that are super cute for juniors. Or your daughter might also take up a princess-themed collection such as trading pins. You could have a great time with her trying to create a fantastic collection of Jasmine pins, for example.

I'm sure you'll have a great time making memories with your daughter on your next Disney visit, no matter what she is wearing.
