    Joan Asked

Hi! My daughter and I are coming to Disney for the first time. Both of us are adults and wonder whether the dining plan is something that we need to be looking at or if it would be ok for us to forgo this? Thanks so much!

    Hi Joan,

I love that you and your daughter are going to Walt Disney World together as adults for the first time. I have spent some lovely times with my mother at Walt Disney World as adults. I remember a really nice meal with her at Les Chefs de France in Epcot where we shared wine, cheese, and conversation. This restaurant had a special meaning for us as my mother was a French teacher, and it was beautiful for me to hear her converse with the cast members in French - even though my high school French didn't do much to allow me to keep up with the conversation!

Whether you choose to use a dining plan really depends on how you and your daughter like to travel and eat. When you have a dining plan, it can help to give structure to your days around dining. For instance, if you know that you are going to purchase the Basic Dining Plan and have one table service meal, one quick service meal, and one snack per day, then you can go ahead and make advance reservations for the table service restaurants you are really interested in and build the rest of the days around that. Also, some people purchase the dining plan because they really like having the meals already paid for before their vacation.

I think that for a trip of two adult women, you might want the carefree feeling of not having the dining plan. This will give you more flexibility. Without the dining plan you would have more flexibility within restaurants. You might sit down for a meal and decide that you're not hungry enough to both get an entire meal, so you might choose to just get two appetizers, or to share an entree. For me, I would prefer the flexibility of not being on the dining plan.

Have a wonderful trip with your daughter, Joan. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
