My daughter is ADHD, Biopolar with pshcotic episodes. She does not deal well with crowds, or waiting. Is there any kind of assistants that Disney can offer to make her trip the best it can be?

Hi Carrie! Walt Disney World is a magical place for many people, including children with special needs and their families. You may certainly obtain a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) from Guest Relations at any Disney theme park. A GAC is for guests with a wide variety of special needs, including "invisible conditions" such ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. Each GAC will accommodate the bearer, and up to five other members of the travel party, by allowing access to alternate attraction entrances where available. Once you arrive at Guest Relations please explain that you are traveling with a nonapparent special needs child. Be ready to describe your child's specific challenges. The Guest Relations Cast Member will add a stamp to the GAC alerting attraction Cast Members as to the type of special assistance and accommodations your child may require. Please be advised that in order to use the GAC, your child must be present when entering each attraction. You won't be asked to provide proof of diagnosis, so you won't need a doctor's letter to request a GAC. However, it is always wise to bring medical documentation to have handy in case of any unforseen emergencies. To avoid large crowds I will suggest traveling during off-peak season and accessing rides or attractions either first or last. Furthermore, you may want to involve your daughter in the trip planning by watching a free Disney Vacation Planning DVD. In addition, make sure to bring additional doses of any medications your pediatrician has prescribed or bring a copy of the prescription in case you need a refill.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have regarding this matter. This is the year of making memories at Walt Disney World. May your family enjoy making many lasting memories together!
