Hi Moms and Dads and Happy Belated Thanksgiving. DH and I just decided we are going July 2013.What advice do you have re:pkge vs. a la carte? Historically there has been way too much food for the kids? R we better off just doing room only and buying tix?

    Hi Paula,

Thank you for your Thanksgiving wishes!  That is so kind of you.  I hope your family had a magnificent Thanksgiving this year.

My family has traveled to Walt Disney World both with a vacation package and without.  We have found that our family saves a bundle by traveling with a package that includes hotel reservation, theme park tickets, and the Disney Dining Plan.

If you had a dining plan in the past that afforded you "too much food,"  I would suggest you consider getting a less inclusive Disney Dining Plan during your next trip.  For instance, if you had the deluxe plan last time, consider the basic plan next time.  We have found the basic plan (including one table service meal, one quick service meal, and one snack credit per person, per day) suits our needs very nicely.  However, if that plan is too much, there is a quick service plan that offers even less food.  I bet there will be an option that works well for your family.  You can't beat the savings you will enjoy by using the plan, especially if you are traveling with children under ten years old.

Be sure to work out a budget with a vacation package and compare it to a budget when you are paying a la carte for housing, theme park tickets, and dining.  I think you'll find that the package will save you money.

    Good luck with your planning!
