Hi moms & dads, Any dining sugg for 8 & 9yo that isnt a char meal. Coming in Jan for 8 days with dining plan. We did alot of char meals in may, and would like something diff but still fun for them. Also celebrating their bdays:) thanks

Hi Alecia! Character meals are always a hit, but Walt Disney World has lots of other fun restaurants too! The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness is a rollicking good time and it's a great spot for a birthday because  the entertainers really fawn over guests celebrating special occasions. The all-you-can-eat  country-style food is tasty, and the show is entertaining for kids and adults alike. If you go to the early show, you could hang around the Fort to take in Chip'n'Dale's free Campfire Sing-a-Long followed by a movie under the stars.

My nine-year-old loves the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Hollywood Studios because you eat your meal in cars while watching campy drive-in movies. Some of the servers even deliver your burgers, shakes and sandwiches on roller skates! Some other great choices are 'Ohana in the Polynesian, where the entertainer acknowledges those celebrating special events and there are activities for kids during the meal, and the Whispering Canyon Cafe, where the servers are always cracking corny jokes and engaging in funny shenanigans. At Teppan Edo in Epcot, it's always fun to watch the hibachi chefs cook your Japanese meal tableside. (My picky son won't eat the food there, but he loves to watch the show!) Also at Epcot, diners at the Coral Reef are mesmerized by the giant aquariums.

If you want an upscale meal, the California Grill is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. (Check the park calendar and make your reservation an hour or so before the fireworks so you can watch them from the restaurant's private viewing area atop the Contemporary.) The food is quite gourmet, but there are also kid-friendly options such as pizza.
