Hello Mom's and Dad! We are visiting WDW for the first time in June 08'. We are on the dining plan and I'm very overwhelmed knowing I have to make these dinner reservations. How do I start? And how does the Character Dining work with dining plan? Thanks!

    Hi Jance,

I know first trips can feel very overwhelming.  I'm assuming you are on the basic dining plan.  You will get one snack, one counter service, and one table service credit per night of your stay.  The character meals usually count as one table service.  Some restaurants, like Cinderella's Royal Table, are considered signature dining and require two table service credits.

When I start planning a new WDW vacation I try to plan which parks we will go to each day.  I recommend looking through the Disney website and reading about the attractions and entertainment that each park offers.  One you decide which park you will visit for a particular day, then check out the restaurants available.  For example, if you are going to be at the Magic Kingdom on the first day, go the park's main page and click explore the park: Dining.  Here you will see there are 3 character meals, 3 casual meal restaurants, and 8 counter services places.  If you think you would want to go to either a character meal or casual restaurant, call and make a reservation as close as possible to when your family normally eats.

I hope this help.  Remember that the most important thing to do is have fun.  You can always change reservations once your at WDW.  The castmembers working at the podium of any restaurant can help you make or change reservations anywhere in the World
