My Dad has problems with his back and is in pain if he is standing or walking for too long. What does Disney World offer that can help with this?

Hi, Brooke!  Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with this great question.

Anyone who has visited the Walt Disney World Resort will tell you that a Disney vacation involves A LOT of walking.  However, Walt Disney World knows that there are many guests who are unable to be on their feet all day, and they have created accommodations to help these guests experience the fun and magic of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation.

A few years ago, I planned a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort for my extended family.  We had three members of our family who were unable to walk long distances or stand for long periods of time.  These families members used Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs), also known as scooters, during our vacation.  ECVs are available to rent at the Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.  However, please keep in mind that rental ECVs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and quantities are limited.  Also, your rental ECV cannot be removed from the destination where it was rented.  For these reasons, my family members chose to rent from one of the Disney Featured Providers listed at the ECV link I have provided in this answer.

Many of the ECV rental companies will deliver an ECV to your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel on your arrival date and pick it up there at the conclusion of your vacation.  You then have the ECV available to use for the entirety of your visit, not just when you are at one of the parks.  My family members who rented ECVs found them very convenient to use.  They charged them overnight at their resort hotel room and used them throughout the day.  Also, most forms of transportation at the Walt Disney World Resort are accessible to guests using ECVs or wheelchairs, so traveling around the property was no problem.

When experiencing attractions in the Walt Disney World theme parks, guests using ECVs can sometimes ride their ECV through the queue area.  Other times, Cast Members may need to direct guests using ECVs to an alternate attraction entrance.  Some attractions allow guests to remain on their ECV to experience the attraction, while others require the guest to transfer to a ride vehicle.  For more detailed information on attraction access, please refer to the Walt Disney World Resort's Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities.

If you have any additional questions while you are planning your vacation, please stop by again.  Have a magical day!
