    Lynda from ME Asked

Is there a current version of Pal Mickey? I’m loving what they’ve done with interactive technology in the MagicBands, but is there currently some kind of interactive technology for little ones too? Thx!!

    Hi, Lynda!

Now that's a throwback - Pal Mickey! He was so much fun! You just never knew when he was going to announce a fun fact or tell a silly joke as you carried him around the theme parks.

Pal Mickey was a plush toy with his own little inner-workings and speaker. I think I had mine around 2003/2004? He was kind of an early version of My Disney Experience and definitely was before the explosion of the smartphone, so he was fun to interact with. Sensors around the park would detect Pal Mickey and would sing songs or toss out trivia questions. Our buddy Pal Mickey did have his downside, as he was bulky to carry around. (And just an FYI, he was not waterproof as we discovered when my daughter dropped Pal into a fountain!) Around 2007/2008 Pal Mickey was no longer available. Until about 2014 I heard that anyone who had one of these toys could take it to the parks and he would still work. My Pal never worked quite right after his swimming adventure so I never got to test him out years after.

Not quite the same, but check out Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. This is kind of an adventure/scavenger hunt around the park. Stop by the Firehouse on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom for details on how to enjoy this interactive experience.

In Epcot, try Agent P's World Showcase Adventure. During this adventure in Epcot you will search for clues all around World Showcase. My kids really enjoyed this, and the parents can even get in on the fun!

Thanks for your great question, and if you still have your Pal Mickey, give him a hug for me!
