Three Generations Aboard Ship

We will be cruising on the Fantasy in June 2012, 7 nights. I have a question about dining dress code. On our first cruise last summer, we noticed lots of casual attire on all nights. Do men and boys really need jackets on formal and semi-formal nights?

    Hi, Danielle!

For Disney Cruise Line, most nights are "cruise casual" on board the ships -- which means no shorts, tank tops or swimwear in the main dining restaurants in the evening.  For shorter cruises, the attire is going to be more casual than on cruises which are 7 or more nights which have a formal and semi-formal evening. Of course, you don't have to participate in dress-up nights.  You can simply grab dinner from Cabanas on Deck 11 or from one of the quick service counters near the pools. For the ultimate in casual, there's also room service.

My husband and oldest son (16) have worn suits on formal night and their jackets with a pair of different slacks on the semi-formal evening.  For my youngest boys, they have worn khakis, sportcoats and ties on formal night and a collared shirt and khakis on semi-formal night.

For me and mine, I do like for them to dress up a bit in order to take some keepsake photos of the family -- we're so rarely all dressed up and at the same place at the same time. Plus, with professional photographers and stunning backgrounds at our disposal, I have to play the "mom card" and make everyone pose a few times for my memory books!

I hope this helps you plan.  Let me know if you have more questions as you anticipate your cruise. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation.

    Bon voyage,
