When are the crowds the lightest?

    Hi Camela!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! While Mickey and Minnie Mouse are delighted to greet guests all year, I also enjoy visiting when the crowds are not as intense.

As you might imagine, predicting crowd levels is not an exact science. We used to use online crowd calendars to help us determine when to visit, but now, we just use all of the advanced planning tools and some key strategies to make the best of any visit. My fellow panelist Clara has some great tips about crowd levels in the parks.

We always book a vacation package with a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel so that we can enjoy all of the great benefits including the ability to make advanced dining reservations 180 days before our visit for the length of our stay (up to 10 days) and the ability to make FastPass+ selections 60 days prior to our trip. Also, check the park hours for the dates of your intended visit. If there are special ticketed events during those dates, consider how that will affect crowd levels.

With that said, my favorite and most least crowded trip with our girls was our very first trip with them when they were 5-years old. We arrived on Mother's Day. The longest standby line we encountered during that trip was Toy Story Mania! which was one hour. You may want to avoid parts of March and April because those are spring break times for schools and Christmas to early part of January because so many people are visiting to experience the Holidays at Walt Disney World Resort. We did visit this past December during Christmas week and survived Magic Kingdom on Christmas day, but we arrived at the parks early, left at mid-day and returned in the evening. That schedule was relatively easy for us because we were staying at Disney's BoardWalk Villas which is within walking distance of Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

As you plan for crowds, do consider the transportation options. We love staying at resort hotels with access to the Resort Monorail. Disney's Contemporary Resort is one of our favorite resorts because it is within walking distance to Magic Kingdom and we can take the monorail to Epcot.  Know also that the Disney Skyliner is another great transportation option from select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels.

Camela, choose the time of year that is best for your family and then plan accordingly. Take advantage of Extra Magic Hours to maximize your time in the parks. Sending you planning pixie dust!
