Do you have any creative ideas to tell my girls (12, 5) that we will be coming to WDW for spring break?

Hi H, We were once able to pull off a surprise trip to Disney World. The kids didn't know about it until we were a mile from the airport!

It was the last week of summer 2008. That's always a "tough week" in our home, because the kids are dreading going back to school. So we told them that we'd head up to New Hampshire and, "Go do something fun". I needed that excuse to explain why there were suitcases in the car. One son asked me in the car where we were staying the first night. I said, "Oh, we'll find someplace fun." He said, "Wow, this isn't like you Mom...usually you have everything planned out". We always fly out of Boston, so the kids weren't even aware there was an airport in NH.

Then, when we were about a mile from the airport, we stopped to have a picnic. Inside the cooler I told the kids that I had, "The best candy bars they'd ever eat." So, I told them all to close their eyes. Now, these weren't just any candy bars! I had made special wrappers online that I printed out and that were the perfect size to cover a Hershey bar. They all opened their eyes to find wrappers with Mickey & friends on them along with: "WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!"

We still laugh hysterically at the video. The next minute went like this: The boys asked, "When?"
I exclaimed, "RIGHT NOW!! We have a plane to catch, let's go!!!"
12 year old son: "Are you stinkin' serious?!?!?"...and they all FLIPPED out!

The whole itinerary was a surprise. Each day, I had them open an envelope with a cute little rhyming poem I had written. It gave hints about where we were going that day. Usually they know the itinerary way in advance, so it added daily anticipation wondering which Park they'd get to enjoy that day.

Of all the trips we've taken to Disney, my kids still talk about this one as being one of their very favorites because of the surprise factor.

Hope this helps and have fun!
