Considering Wild Africa Trek with 9yr old son. How much walking,climbing,etc...does it involve? My son gets tired out easily and very clumsy.I think he can do it but he is worried I don't want him saying he wants to go back the whole time.

    Hi Debra,

I've been on the Wild Africa Trek twice, once with my twins when they were 11 years old. The entire Trek lasts about three hours. I'd estimate that about one of the hours is fairly active. You're not walking for the entire hour, but you are standing and observing animals. There is some terrain that is uneven. You're ducking under branches and stepping over tree roots. There are also the rope bridges which involve taking some large steps between planks and climbing a ladder-like staircase to reach the bridge.

This sounds like a lot, but at no point did my unathletic daughter complain. We were never huffing and puffing. I'd very much categorize this as a walk rather than a hike. My guess is that your son will be so engaged with the guides and the animals that he won't even notice that he's moving around.

But really, you know your son best. I encourage you to head over to YouTube. There are a number of guests who have filmed portions of their Wild Africa Trek experiences. You can watch some of these to see if they seem like something your son would enjoy.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
