We are considering camping at the Fort Wilderness Campground in January, to save on our expenses. Am I crazy? Is January a good time of year to camp at Disney? Also, we are not very experienced with camping. Is it harder then I think? I need advice.

Trying to get your family to WDW on a budget is not Goofy!

January has very unpredictable weather. We have been there many times in the month of January. We've experienced very pleasant temperatures as well as extreme highs and lows.

I've been to Orlando and had to wear a winter jacket, hat and gloves. I've seen torrential rains. But, I've also worn shorts and experienced unexpected hot weather. Typically, wear pants in the morning, shorts sometimes in the afternoons and pants and sweatshirts and/or jackets in the evening.

For your first camping trip, the weather will likely be one of your biggest challenges. And, how are you camping?

If you'll be in a tent, and end up not sleeping well, then you may not be well rested enough to enjoy your park days. Can you do a trial camping trip closer to home?

To save money, you might want to try www.priceline.com for inexpensive Orlando hotels. I got a beautiful resort for $36 total a couple of years ago for the night before we checked in to our WDW hotel.

Following deals via www.mousesavers.com and www.travelzoo.com are also good ways to find inexpensive lodging. You might also want to try pricing the value resorts on WDW property. Don't pay rack rate. Look for deals via Mousesavers, okay?!
