We are considering buying into DVC- we heard the Grand Floridian is currently having villas built and will become a DVC hotel. Any idea on when we'd be able to buy into it? Or are we better buying min. Pts now and having 2nd contract when avail?

    Hello, AnnMarie!

    This is a great question!

On December 8, 2011, Disney Vacation Club announced a new resort development at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. "Estimated to open in late 2013, this new resort experience is slated to be the 12th Disney Vacation Club property and will be located near the spa and wedding pavilion at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. In addition to villa accommodations, plans for the expansion include a children’s water-play area and other amenities." Sounds fantastic, doesn't it?

A start sales date for this property has not been determined.

I can, however, tell you about the pluses and minuses of having more than one property as your home resort. For example, we have three Disney Vacation Club home resorts, and are really very happy with the flexibility this offers us.  I've managed to use my home resort window of eleven months to my advantage.  When I really wanted a two-bedroom villa with a Theme Park View for the Fourth of July, I used my membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. When we wanted to book a Treehouse Villa, we used our membership at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.  Both of these reservations were made on the day the eleven month window opens for home resort members. (I like to plan ahead!)

The only drawback I've encountered is not being able to book an entire stay at one resort at that eleven month window--we can only book that early at our home resort. However, I've had no problem booking the remaining nights at the same resort when the seven month window opens up for booking accommodations.  If you don't mind the extra phone call, then this isn't a problem either.

Good luck making your decision!  Be sure to chat with a Disney Vacation Club Representative at (800) 500-3990, asking specific questions about membership at any of Disney's soon-to-be family of twelve resorts!
