I am so confused about where to stay. planning August 2011 trip with husband and 2 sons, ages 2 and 3. Wanted the Polynesian bc of the convenience of monorail, but i keep contemplating Animal Kingdom or a moderate resort. Please HELP!

    Denise:

If you're thinking about Animal Kingdom, a semi-deluxe resort, or a Moderate resort in lieu of the Polynesian that tells me you may be concerned about its cost and whether the monorail is worth that cost.

As much as I loved staying at the Polynesian in March, you could probably rent a car, and a convertible at that, and take a few taxis for your transportation needs and still come out way ahead staying elsewhere!  And I would definitely recommend that car if you stayed at Animal Kingdom, which provides only bus transportation to the theme parks and is the most remote hotel on property. A Savannah View room there would delight your boys. If you're going in August and also considering Moderate hotels, I'd recommend taking a look at Caribbean Beach Resort with its pirate-ship theme and spash station. But it's downside is its park transportation and its buses make multiple stops at the resort.

If renting or bringing your car isn't for you, a good compromise between price and proximity might actually be found by looking at two other Deluxe resorts: the Contemporary and the Swan & Dolphin. The Contemporary is also on the monorail and includes the more affordable Garden Wing rooms that are near its pool which includes ground fountains, a long slide and lovely views of the lagoon. The Swan & Dolphin are within a pleasant morning stroller ride of Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot. In the afternoon, take its ferry from the parks back to the hotel. Keep in mind, though, that these twin hotels aren't actually Disney hotels, so you wouldn't be able to get the Disney Dining Plan. But the lights of the Boardwalk coupled with its upscale pool and paddle boats make it also an affordable runner-up to the Polynesian!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
